8. Acadian Deportation Cross Monument

The Acadian Deportation Cross Monument was created by the Société Nationale de l’Acadie and is located in front of the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum. There are 10 monuments in all marking the journey of the expelled Acadians. Houma, Louisiana’s monument is the first in the United States. Panels in English and French tell the story of the Acadians’ journey and the settlement in Terrebonne Parish. A map shows the routes taken by the Acadians following deportation. A cross adorns the top of the monument – a replica of the Grand Pre’ deportation cross.

9. Regional Military Museum

The Regional Military Museum is a living history of the area’s rich military past. Vehicles really run and weapons really fire. The library acts as a place of research for both family military history and educational instruction. Veteran volunteers offer first-hand accounts of their service.

10. Southdown Plantation & Terrebonne Museum

Southdown Plantation House is a 19th century manor house, slave quarters, gift shop and worker’s cabin! Local history is told by a fully guided tour. Tours offered hourly, Last tour begins at 3:00pm. No credit cards.
